PROVINCIAL CENTRES.

(From Our Spccini Correspondents.) 9 CARTERTON. The holiday in honour of the King's Birthday was observed in Carterton on Saturday; The weather was dull, but fine. The only attractions in the district were the Friendly Societies' seven-a-side football tourney at Mas'tcrton, and the trotting meeting at Moroa, Groytown. Both attracted a number of local residents. The'late shop hour night was observed on Friday, but, according to tradespeople, business was poor, not being nearly as good as the ordinary Saturday night. Very few people were about, this being duo no doubt to the fact that it was not generally known that Friday night was to be the late night.
