EVERYTHING GOING VERY WELL.

Major-General Godloy,' Commandant-ot the New Zealand Forces, arrived nt Gisborne on Saturday. Ho is. accompanied b? his Staff Officer, Captain Thornton, and Lieut.-Coloncl Burnett Stuart. Interviewed upon arrival, General Godlev said that when touring the Dominion he 'endeavoured -to. become acquainted with as many citizens as possible, and thus to find out tlio conditions existing in the various districts, and also tci mo how the work ox registration is getting on, and what the prospects are from a soldier's point of view. "I have found things very satisfactory indeed, so far," said Clio General. ••Everywhere evervono seems most enthusiastic about the scheme, and there is nothing but help from all classes and conditions of men. The registration, 1 think, has been going on very satisfactorily on tlio whole. The only reason for the extension of time is for the convenience of thoss who live in Hie back-block*, who have not the opportunity of hearing the conditions, and understanding exactly what they have to do." A civic reception was tendered to. (no General in the Borough Council Chambers, when speeches were made by Mr. W. Pel tic, ncting-Mnyor, and Messrs. J. Townlcv and. J. W. Bright. General Gddley thanked those present for- their kind welcome, nnrt, in tho course of a rcnly of considerable length, reviewed the defence system, outlining (he conditions of service. Subsequently, ho inspected the local district Territorials, 251 strong, and expressed satisfaction at their appearance. During the course of the parade, General Gndley asked Colonel Porter, C.8., to stop forward, and presented him with tho Auxiliary Forces Officers' Imperial decoralion, lie also made complimentary references to the excellent services rendered by Colonel Porter in tho Imperial Army, Hie Maori Wars, and tho South African AVnrs.
