A unique ceremony took place at Bairn", England, last month, at the four-and-a-half-acro studio of Mr. Barker, the maker of the celebrated "Henry VIII kinemafographic II" 1 1,on " being shown by West« Ltd.. at the Princess and Palaco Theatres. In a huge field a funeral pyre was prepared, with tho miniature Crystal Palace Theatre in tho background, wherein these and many other pictures, were taken Mr. Barker and somo assistants) helped matters along. Several sheets of corrugated iron were spread on the grass, and all tho films of "Tlcnry VIII which had been in circulation arrived in a wheelbarrow. Each roll contained one-, third of a mile of pictures, and there wero 24 rolls to be destroyed, or eight miles in all Three matches touched tho celluloid at'once, and one caught. There was a small flame liko a man s hand. Dion— poof With a huge roar tho vast heap ignited; a sheet of (lame—red, bronze, gold—leapt upwards thirty feet or more, rushing over the grass like some forest fire. Fiercely it burnt, tho heat reaching fifty vards round, and tho flames sweeping up spirally, like the curling shape of tho streamers, as they fell. For a minute and a half it blazed, seorchingly, whilethe grass became alight in every direction. Then, just as suddenly as it had arisen, tho shoot of llame died down. Tho explanation of the conflagration was that all tho films that have been on exhibition in London and the provinces of Sir Herbert Tree's record production were "called in," and consigned to the flames. As Wests, Ltd., have tho sole Australian rights for the production, ami tho film must, bo returned in six months, Shakespearean students must see Sir H.
