An entertainment, organised by Mr. J.' Culford Bell, manager of the Lower Hutt Amateur' Dramatic Club, was given in tho Ohiro.Home on Wednesday evening. A properly-appointed stage was used, with drop curtain, etc., the scenery having been painted by a late inmate of the home, and the fitting done by tho staff and inmates of the home. Messrs. K. .Fletcher and D. .Robertson, members of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, were present. The'principal items of the programme were the comedietta, "A Contest of Honour," by.Miss Elsie Correck and Messrs. J. C. Bell and W. Mason; a humorous sketch, "A Piece of Nonsense," by Miss Correck and Mr. Bell; and a clever conjuring turn by Mr. C. 31. Howard. Miscellaneous itettis were, contributed by Mrs.' Boiitell and Misses Bennett, Shearer, M. Boute.ll,3uid. Mar.tin. Short'addresses'to the'inmates were made by Messrs. 1!. Fletcher and D. Robertson. The City Council's Public Tlealfh Committee recommended last' , night: "That Messrs. Young and Tripe be informed, on behalf of the Colonial Carrying Co., that the council will bo prepared to allow Dip stable, No. 2<l Martin Street, to stand for 12 month?, provided that a proper undertaking is entered into that tho building will be demolished at the end of that period; and that in the meantime the building is kept in a proper sanitary condition.',' Several councillors thought: the proposal would not-adequately safeguard the health interests of a rather closelybuilt neighbourhood. The clause was referred back to tho committee. Messrs. Latham and Co., land agents, Woodville, advertise particulars of a number of farms for sale in this issue. The Hokitika Harbour Board invite tenders for erecting the new south wall and north wall extensions at Hokitika. The next quarter for. Mr. Harrison's physical culturo classes commences next week.
