LIGHTNING KILLS SEVEN PEOPLE MADDENED PUMAS ATTACK A LADY TRAINER. CROWD ESCAPES INTO DELUGE. By Telscrapo—Press Association— Copytlent (Kcc. June 1, 9.5 p.m.) London, June 1. A spell of tropical heat culminated in a series of thunderstorms in 'the homo counties yesterday, and the streets in many places were flooded. Tho Epsom race crowd, in returning from the Derby, were in a sorry plight, and encountered the full force of the storm. The lightning killed two policemen and three other race-goers. Altogether seven deaths are reported up to date, and many other persons are known to have been severely injured. Two city churches were struck by lightning. The underground railway was flooded, and the system short-circuited, by the waiter in tho tunnels. An extraordinary scene was witnessed in Bostock's Jungle, at the White City Exhibition. Tho thunder infuriated the pumas on exhibition, and they attacked and mauled a lady trainer. The pavilion was crowded at the time, the people escaping into the torrential rain outside, amid groat excitement. The lady trainer was rescued by the attendants, who used crowbars on the maddened animals.
