TOFUA STRIKES A REEF.
ASSISTANCE DISPATCHED. By Telceraph-Press Association-Oopyrieht Suva, May 31. Tho Union Steamship Company's' steamer Tofua struck on a reef in tho Navula Passage. The steamer Eanadi has gone to her assistance. EXPECTED TO FLOAT OFF L\ST NIGHT. (Rec. May 31, 8.40 p.m.) Sydney,' May 31. . Tho Union Company has been advised that the Tofua is not making water. Tho captain expects to float her' off to-night. The- Tofua, which is under the corns' 1 - of - 9, apt , a - m „ Holford ' '»" as built in IHOB specially for the company's trade between Sydney, Fiji, Tonga, and Samoa, one is a twin-screw vessel of 4100 tons gross register, and her principal dimensions are: Length, 3f,oft.; breadth, 48ft; and depth, 31ft. A feature in connection with tho passenger accommodation of the lofua is that all cabins are on tho decks and were specially designed to minimise tho discomforts of tropical waters. The vessel was due at Suva on Tuesday from Sydney, which port she left on May 23. The passengers on board on her departure from Sydney were: Mr. and Mrs. Eustace Bennett, Mr. and Mrs. Langen and child, Mr. and Mrs. Innes, Mr. and Mrs. Windeyer, Mr. and Mrs. Berry Mesdames N. G.
