LIVE STOCK SALES.
Jlessre. Dalgcty and Co. report:—At the Wanganui sale to-day we yarded 2000 sheep, of which we sold 1050 at prices on a par with late ruling rates. We had a fair yarding of cattle, for which there was practically no demand. We quote: Forward mixed ewes and wethers, 12s. Sd.; two-tooth wethers, lis. 7d.; storo cweu, ss. 10d.; raised lambs, • medium duality, ss. Bd.; cull lambs, 25.; fat. cows, £6 10s.; Hoi-stein-cross heifers, £4; dairy heifers, £4 to £4 17s. 6d.; dairy cows, £4 to £3 &3.; weaners, £1 3s. to £1 ss. Messrs. Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., report:— We held our usual weekly sale in the Sol way (Majusrtonl yards yesterdav, when a very small yarding of both cattle and eheep came forward and the sale was dull right throughout, but we arc pleased to report having had a good clearance, having sold all passed-in lots privates. Amongst our entry we had a line of four and six-tooth store wethers, which brought. 1?.?. 9d. Other quotations are as follow — Woolly lambs, 7s. Bd. to Bs. fd.-, fat ana forward ewes, 10s. 6d. to 12s. 2d.; fat lamb'-, 12s. 6d.; old rams, to 10s. 3d.; four and sixtooth wethers, to 12s. 9d. Cattle: Fat cow's £4 12s. 6d. to £5 12s. Grt.; fat heifers, £5 165., £6, to £6 Bs.; spring cows, £4 2s. 6d. to £5; wcancr heifer.?. 235., 255.; horses' three and five-year half-draught fillies, £7! £8, £10, to £11. Messrs. consisted chiefly of efjual numbers of owes and lambs, with a few lines of wethers, all of ordinary quality. There was not a very active demand, and with the exception of good sound-mouthed ewes, prices were si shade weaker. Six and eight-tooth ewes made Bs. Id. to 10s. 7d.; sound-mouth lines, 8.-. to &=.; fair mouths, ss. 6d. to 6s. 9d.; and aged, 4s. to 4s. £d.: ewe lambs, 7s. 9d. to IPs. lCd., the latter price being for an especially pood line: mixed sexes, Bs. to Bs. 6d.: medium sorts, 6s. 6d. to 7s. 6d.; forward wethers, 13s. 6d.; others, lis. 3d. to lis. lid. The entry of fat lambs totalled 8410, or 23C0 more than last week. The finality was better than last, week, and the yarding included some exceptionally Rood lines. The sale opened fully up to last week's rates, but competition and prices afterwards eased off, several speculators not operating. There were 7984 taken for export at 9s. Id. to IBs. 4d„ and 432 by butchers at Bs. Gd. to 16s. 9d. There was an exceptionally heavy entry of fat sheep, this being the last sale at which ewes will be sold without a guarantee that they are not in lamb. Notwithstanding tho large supply, there was an active demand throughout tho sale. Wethers, of which there were some prime lines offered, were very linn, and goon ewes sold well, but aged and inferior sorts were somewhat easier. The range or prices was: Prime wethers, 17s. to 2Cs. 5d.; extra, 235. 9d.; others. 12s. lOd. to 16s. 6d.: prime ewes, 14s. to 18s. Id.; extra, to 20b.: medium, lis. to 13s. 6d.; aged and light, 6s. to 10s. 6d.; merino wethers, 7s. sd. to 14s. 6d. The supply of beef totalled 262 head, or about 150 fewer than the previous week. Included in tho entry were some lines of very prime quality, but the general average was below that of tho previous sale. There was practically no change in prices except for very prime steers, these showing an advance in values. Steers made .£7 2s. 6d. to £11, extra to £14; heifers, £5 to £10 55.: a,nd cows. £5 to £11, equal to 30s. for extra prime, 245. to 28s. for prime, 21e. 6d. to 235. for medium, and 19s. 6d. to 20s. 6d. for cow and inferior per 1001b. Veal calves made 4s. 6d. to £os. A small yarding of store cattle, in poor condition met with a dull sale, yearlings making 205.: fifteen to cighteen-months, £2 18s. 6d. to £3; two-year steers, at £4 12s. 6d.; and dry cows at 345. 6d. and £4 IPs. Good dairy cows were in demand, and made £3 10s. to £9 15s. Pigs were entered in smaller numbers than last week, but there was practically no change in values. Choppers sold up to £4 15?.; largo baconers, 475. 6d. to- 555.; lighter, 375. to 455. (equal to 4d. per lh.); large porkers, 275. 6d. to 335.; small, 20s. to 2os. (equal ■to 4Jd. per lb.). A small yarding of storo pigs met, with little demand, medium sorts making 14s. to 10s.: small, Bs. to 125.; weaners, 2s. to 65.; and larger, to Bs. 3d. BURNSIDE MARKET. '■.. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) Duncdln, May 31.. At Burnside stock market, there was a large yarding of 219 head of, fat cattle, and as several of the large butchers are out of the market at present, prices were from 15s. to 2Cs. per head lower than last week. Quotations: Best bullocks, £10 ss. to. £12; extra, heavy bullocks, to £13 55.; medium bullocks, £8 10s. to £9 55.; bestheifers, £8 15s. to £9 17s. 6d.; medium, £7 to £8 ss. . .. Fat sheep: 4178, consisting mostly of ewes, with a few pens of good wethers, and. a.? freezing buyers were operating freely best wethers, were Is. per hood better, while medium wethers and ewes sold at last week's rates. Quotations: Best wethers, to 205.: extra heavy wethers, to 225. Cd.; medium, 16s. to 12-3.; light, 14s. to 15s. 6d.; best ewes, 15s. 6d. to 16s. 6d.; extra heavy, to 20s. 3d.; medium, lis. 6d. to 12s. 6d. Fat lambs: 2094 yarded. A fair yarding, but the quality was not quite so good as last week, and freezing buyers operated on the same basis as last sale. Quotations: Best lambs, 14s. 6d. to 16s. 3d.; medium, 12s. to 12s. 9d.; inferior, 9s. to lCs. 6d. -
