FOR MR. SEDGWICK.
MEMBERS COLLECT SUBSCRIPTION. On tho opening day of the anntinl conference of the Wellington branches of the New Zealand Tanners' Union, at Woodville, the president (Mr. .1. (J. Wilson) offered to head a list of subscriptions of money to be handed to Mr. Sedgwick, who had interested himself in the immigration of boys for farms. Yesterday morning Mr. AVilson announced that a canvass had been made by Mr. W. B. Matheson, of Eketahuna (vicepresident), and MO had been collected by him. lie hoped that the example of this conference would spread to other parts, because Mr. Sedgwick was well worthy of support, and anything that they spent in this way would bo returned to them manifold. Mr. F. F. Hockly (Hunterville) said that it had been suggested to him that oil members should be given the opportunity of subscribing. Mr. Wilson: "I propose to ask Mr. Sedgwick to allow an appeal ito be made through the 'Advocate.'" Mr. 11. A. Nevins (Te Xui) thought that the money should be given as a donation from the body. Subsequently the conference resolved, on tho motion of Levin, "That this conference l.eartily support Mr. Sedgwick's immigration scheme."
