A special meeting of Ihe Boxing AssO* cia.tion was held in the Chamber of Commerce- yesterday evening, to consider the proposal,to amend tho rules in regard to membership.' The proposal was to increase tho membership from 75 to 100, and to increase the subscription from 10s. (id. to Jills. ' .., ■

Tho.chnir. was.occupied by Mr. 8... W. M'Villy, who moved the amendment to the rules. Tho chairman pojntcd ' out that the matter had been, considered before, hut it liad not previously been deemed prudent to introduce tho change. The balance-sheet for the past year, how-, ever, showed that the association could not carry on satisfactorily with tho present subscriptions and membership. Ho did not think, tho association should have to depend on the takings at tournaments to carry on with. Further, he thought tho benefits derived by. members- were worth more than the present subscription. If the old members remained with- tho association, as the association hoped they would, tho net profits from tournaments would bo available to advance the sport, and, sooner or later, enable the association to assist a sports room of their own. The motion was carried unanimously.

Some .discussion, look place as to the forthcoming winter , championships. The chairman said he had written to Mr. W. F. Corbett,' of Sydney,' asking him to select some suitable feather and lightweights, and get them into communication with the ' Wellington Association,, He had. mentioned Kussell,' Douglas, Fit jijohn, Elliott, and Sutherland. He had also nsked for information in regard to Arthur Kelly, who was reported" to be anxious to meet "Tim" Tracy. It was decided to hold the provincial championships on June 23. -One spe.ik«» took exception to the arrangements made by the sub-committee, to Hold the tourney at the Exhibition, as this meant an extra Is. charge as entrance fee to the Exhibition. Patrons of, the sport might not wish to see the Exhibition. After some discussion in which the chairman, as one of the sub-committee which made tho arrangements with the Exhibition authorities, staled that ho would bo no party to going back oh the arrangement, and would vacate his position as chairman if such a resolution was carried, the matter was allowed In drop. Dr. Izard suggested that if the association could not enrry out a sports club scheme in its entirety they might be able to lake a gymnasium for, say,, one night a week, and try to encourage young men to come out and box under the auspices of tho association.

The chairman said the association had looked for suitable rooms before, but had been unable to get them.

s[r. Bridge thought it might be'possible lo make terms with Victoria College for the use of their gymnasium.

Mr. Fordhain thought that by putting , on bouts in a gymnasium they would not only popularise the .<port, but increase their membership. A sub-committee, consisting of Messrs. Bridge, Fordhain, and Guise, was' ap» poinred to go into tho matter. NOTES FROM SYDNEY.
