A Gramaphone Tea. A great deal of interest is being shown in kindergarten work in Wellington just now, and various projects have been undertaken, or are about to be undertaken, with a -view to raising funds with which to carry on and extend the work, lesterday "afternoon a variation in the way of teas was given, this being nothing less than a gramaphone recital at which all the invited guests contributed a shilling each, the sum total to b? handed in for the benefit of the Richmond kindergartens. Quito a number of people attended, and thoroughly enjoyed listening to tho many beautiful records —the next best thing to hearing the original performers themselves. This afternoon, another tea is being given by Mrs. Kane, at which it is probable that Miss Richmond will touch upon the aims and ideals of kindergarten work. A Farewell Social. Mrs. E. C. Robinson, who is leaving Stratford for Auckland, where she intends to continue her musical studies for at least one year, was the guest of honour at a farewell "social" held in the Town Hall last week. A pleasant time was spent, and Mrs. Robinson was the recipient of many hearty wishes for her future success. Tho guest of the evening was m a becoming frock of white satin veiled with cream net. Among others present were Mrs. Kimbell, wearing a white, silk dress; Mrs. Young, black sequinned frock; Mrs. Fookes, black velvet relieved with handsome lace; Mrs. Copping, black satin trimmed with laca; Mrs. Glasgow, blue ninon with garniture of gold; Mrs. Hogg, black'satin with black chifion overdress; Mrs.'Stubbs, black silk dress; Mrs. Menzies, white silk frock; Mrs. Anderson, buttercup satin relieved W.ith black velvet; Mrs. Crawshaw, black lace robe; Mrs. Johnston, orange coloured brocade; Mrs. Melville, white satin- with-.chiffon overdress; Mrs. Porritt, white silk; Mrs. Wilkie, black net over silk; Miss Anderson, blue silk and pearl .trimming;. Miss Fussell, cream silk with black velvet touches; Miss Nancy James, pink silk; Miss Crawshaw,.cream satin with overdress of sequinued chiffon; Miss Hlute (Hawera), green silk; Mrs. Orbell, pink silk with handsome Oriental trimming; Miss Black, black silk with old lace .trimming.' A delightful dance was.given'bv Mr. and Mrs. Kuminer at their new residence, "Kummerstein," on Friday , evening. Dancing took place in the hall, which was tastefully decorated with palms anrt ferns Sunner -was set in a- sitting-room. the table "being prettily decorated with daffodils ac<l autumn leaves. The engagement is announced' of MissEva Korthcote,' only daughter of Mrs. Cecil Northcote, of Wellington, to Mr. Francis Gaward Webster, superintendent of the Egyptian War Office, Khartum, Sudan. ■■■■-. Mrs. K. D. M'Leod, of Lawrence Street, has returned from a visit to Auckland and Hawera. Mrs. Arthur B. Gibson, of Napier, is on a visit to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. St. Hill, of Porangahau, aro visitors to Kotorua. . . Tho Rev. Mr. Cassell and Mrs. Cassell. of Hawera, arrived in Wellington on Monday, and leave by the Rotorua on a , six months' visit, to England. i Miss Winnie Moore (Masterton) is the guest, of Mrs. W. Preshaw, Hikorangi. Mr. and Mrs.. Rcnwick (Nelson) are visiting Wellington.. Mr. J. T. Clarke (Bast Coast) has returned home from Wellington, and is staying with Mr. and Mrs. R. Barrer, "Lowlands." Without fuss or ostentation the Two Garment Society has been doing much needed and very practical work by providing clothing for the poor. This has already been gratefully acknowledged m these columns, and now St. Paul s Dorcas and Relief Society desire to express their hearty thanks to the Two Garment Society for a very useful contribution of clothing. A cherry blossom fair and sale of work has been'organised by the Ladies Guilo of the Wellington Central Mission, and will be ' opened this afternoon, at 3 o clock., by the Rev. J. G- Chapman. The Herbert Street Hal! has been transformed in appearance, and resembles a cherry orchard, with a wealth of blos-oming trees, while here nnd there stalls of goods for sale make their appearance, theffl being laden with plain and fancy needlework, flowers and plants, produce, refreshments and sweets. During the evening n short programme of vocal and instrumental music will be provided, -and interesting anrt amusing competitions will bo held. The proceeds will be devoted to the work of the Central Mission.
