MILK'S BY-PRODUCTS.
TESTS AS TO FEEDING VALUES. The Ontario Experiment Station reports a test as to the. respective value of skim-milk", butter-milk, and whey for pig feeding. Five groups nf pigs wero taken for the purpose of demonstration. To group 1 was fed about two and a half pounds of skim-milk to every pound of barley and frozen wheat, to which rome pollard was added. That was called meal, and every group got the same meal. Group 2 was fed on equal quantity in pounds of butter-milk and meal. Group 3 was fed on common cheese factory whey in place of skimmilk or butter-milk, and the samo ration of meal. Group 4 was fed on whey that had-been run through the separator to take out the butter-fat (threetenths of 1 per cent, per 1001b.), and meal as the rest. Group 5 was fed the same quantity of meal and water for their drink. The skim-milk gave the best results, 1.31b., per day per pig, and it required 2511b. of meal and 6261b. of skim-milk to make 1001b. of gain. The buttermilk ran tho skim-milk a neck-and-ueck race. It took 2561b. of meal and 6311b. of skim-milk to make 10011). gain. The ordinary whey, group rose to 2691b. of meal and 7471b. of whey to make 1001b. gain. On separated whey it took 2071b. of meal and 7741b. of whey to make 1001b. gain. On water and meal it required 4301b. of meal to make 1001b. of gain.
