(From Our Snocini Correspondents.) OTAKI. 'i'ho combined hockey clubs hold a "social" on Friday night, but, on account of wet weather, there was not a largo attendance. Those, who attended, however, had an enjoyable- time. Messrs. Ferguson, Thomson, O'Hourke, and Bright have been chosen to represent tho local bowling club in tlio tournament which is to bo held .at AVollingfon. Tho tradespeople of Otaki aro undecided as to whether to close on Saturday (King's Birthday) or Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Hello left Otaki on. Thursday for Wellington, en route to Sydney. Shooting for the "Daily Mail" Cup on Wednesday, (ho Hnutcro Kille Club scored (5/, while, for tho ladi<V bracelet, Mr. •I. laylor proved ihe winner with a score of 98. A successful hunt was held nt Waikanao this wrok, when some thirty riders took part. Tlio sport proved enjoyable, and, at tho conclusion, II r. Hira Pnnxta entertained all present at afternoon i«a. It is stated that a claim for .£IOOO damages is to be made against a local resident foi;_ alleged slander. Grass grubs have made their appearances in several places of the district, and have done much damage to -acres of land. -Mr. E. J. Port, of 'Waikanae, nnd whtf has been recuperating at To Aroha, hat returned, considerably benefited. WOODVILLE. A short sitting of tho Magistrate's Court was held on Thursday. The Mayor and Mr. W. H. Nolson wero sworn in as J.P.'s. Several settlers woro fined for exposing sheep infected with parasites for sale. G. Lind wae fined 40s. for driving without lights and on tho wrong side of tho road, thereby occasioning a collision with a cyclist. Tho total takings at tho Technical School bazaar woro £200. Cases of diphtheria aro reported on tho Napier Koad, tho patients being, adults. Tho Foreign Mission services, which] are to bo' held here shortly in ■ connection with tho Methodist Church, are to bo conducted by Mrs. Ferryman. Tho new schoolroom, recently built in , .' connection with Holy Trinity Church, is to bo opened by a public "social." Mr. Giles lias made good progress with the metalling of Upper M'Leati Street, tho contract being almost) finished.
