FEILDING ITEMS.

Feildmg has just had a visit from tho organising officer for senior cadets, under the new defence scheme, with tho object of finding out local possibilities. The object is to form a whole, or a portion of a company of cadets, in conjunction with tho boy scouts, if necessary. A whole company consists of 120 members, a section 30, and whilst an endeavour will be made to go for the larger number, the Department will encourage the formation of sections. Several gentlemen have been approached in .Feilding, with a view to taking up commissions with tho senior cadets under the Defence Department. •

John Lcnnon, nged G5 years, a singlo man, so far as is known, and having no relatives in the Dominion, entered "the .Manchester Hotel on Thursday evening,' and, within a few minutes, he " died. Deceased, had previously .been .in Peildiug, but had gone away for [iome months, and had come back, evidently with the intention of trying to obtain work. At the inquest (before Mr. E. Goodbelierc, coroner), Sergeant Bowdcn stated that he had known deceased for over' thirty years. Lennon had often spoken to him (witness) about his heart. He was very reticent about his relatives, and witness could not say if he was married. He possessed nothing of any. value. The coroner's verdict was to tho effect that death was attributed.'to heart disease.
