MIRAMAR BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The Miramar Borough Council met last evening. Present:—The Mayor.(Mr. J. Brodie), and Councillors Bowie,. Richards, Bell, Stone, Lam-epson, and .Telford. Mr. A. E. Mabin wroto directing attention to the manner in which the Seatbun tunnel was (or was not) lighted. The tunnel should always be lighted half an hour before darkness set in inside. This was not done at present, am* danger to traffic.existed. "There is no doubt that this matter requires attention," said the -Mayor, and another councillor endorsed tlie view, remarking that the-lighting of the tunnel was "very lax." •The clerk stated that he. had been repeatedly in communication with the Tramways Department on the subjeet. It appeared that the motornien were at fault.

On the motion of Councillor Bowie it was agreed that the attention of the tramways engineer be again called to the irregular and late lighting of Seatoun tunnel.

Th'e Tree-planting Committee reported that it met ou May 16, and decided to recommend' the council to defer, the planting of Toru Street and plant Park Street along the east side, between the tramline and the main drain. In regard to planting on the foreshore, the committee recommended that the Worser Bay foreshore be levelled, with a view to planting, in place of planting' along the fores-hore from Scorching Bay to Seatoun. The borough engineer would report upon the matter. Proposals for planting (ho Pass of Brenda and the school frontage to Seatoun Heights had been approved. . The report was adopted. The Tramway Committee reported that Mr. Cable (of the City Tramway Department) had undertaken to report as to tho running of an hourly service on each line, and doing away with the junction running. The committee recommended the council to adopt the suggestion of Councillor Bell thatls. coupon tickets entitling residents to 12 rides over either-section on any- day. in the week be issued. It was further recommended that the coupon tickets be procurable at tho stores in the district, and at the council office. The council decided to inaugurate the system of coupon tickets, and determined that the tickets should be not transferable. „, ■ . . It was decided to print a list of picnic spots in the district on the backs of the tramway tickets. Tho Mayor reported from the council in committee that a letter had been received from the Department of Internal Affairs stating that the council was entitled to a pound for pound subsidy, up to JJ2SO, upon the cost of erecting a Coronation building to commemorate the coronation of King George V. The council had decided to advise the Government that it was intended to erect a Coronation building at Miramar, in the shape of municipal chamhers, at a cost of between XGOO and i<oo.' . ' . - '
