Q _ REPLY TO MR. HOLMAN. By Tclecrapli—Press Association—Conyriehl Melbourne, May 24. Mr. "IV. M. Hughe?, Acting-Prime Minister of Australia, discussing the statement (conveyed to him by letter) by Mr. Holman, Acting-Premier of New Soutli Walts, that the New South Wales Government lias felt some concern in the matter of the maintenance of a regular mail service b&tween Sydney and Vancouver, and suggesting that Mr. Hughes should communicate with the Prime Minister of the Commonwealth, now in London, in view of an approaching conference with Sir Wilfrid Lauricr, declared that it would be preferable for the Commonwealth and not a State to take action. There were no insuperable difficulties in the way of arranging such a service as Mr. Holman desires to see. Jlr. nughes added that upon a satisfactory settlement of the question of Austra-lian-Canadian reciprocity a shipping scheme would follow naturally. The only obstacle to .the- granting of a Commonwealth subsidy to a serviro touching at New Zealand would then be ramoved. COLDS LEAVE WEAK PLACES. j WEAK, COTOIMNJUIiEU SPOTS INVITE CONSUMPTION.
