Tho Masterton' Borough Council last night decided to grant tho use of ..tho Park Oval to the Wairarapa Hockey Association for June 3, provided that tho custodian offered no objection: -Several councillors opposed the proposal nn the ground that the Oval would be cut up to such an extent that it would require,a considerable sum to put it in order for cricket next season. . . •• •■■■■ The following officers have been elected by the Masterton Parliamentary Debating Socfcfr:—Patron, Mr. H. A communication was received by the Masterton Borough Council last night from tho Minister for Internal Affairs, stating that the Coronation subsidy of £ for £ up to £250, would be available for such objects as., swimming baths fountains, aveiuies of trees, and baud rotundas. ..As tho whole of these arc, already provided in Masterton, it was-de-cided to submit plans for a tea kiosk, to 1« erected in the Park, and to ask a. subsidy upon this. Councillor Temple generously offered to provide tho plans of a kiosk free of charge. , The Masterton. Fire Police hold their annual progressive- euchre party and. dance,in the Exchange.Hall this evening. A return furnished by the Wairarapa. At the suggestion of the Mayor, Councillor Temple promised to mention the matter at a later stage. . . .. •' Roller skating has been revived in Masterton, and there is every prospect of tho rink on the old showground being liberally patronised. . The first lecture in connection with tlio ladies' division of St. -John Ambulance was given to-night by Dr. P. B. took. Tho fortnightly meeting of the Masterton Hibernian Lodge was held -last evening. Bro. Wafers presiding. It was decided to enter teams in- the Friendly I Societies' catd tournament. and footballmatch \ vole of condolence was passed (o the'secretary (Mr. P. O'ttegan) .in reference to the death of his daughter. The Mayor and Councillors Kwington and Prentice were, last night.' appointed representatives of the Masterton Borough Council upon the Masterton Fire Board.. The Mayor takes the ssat of Mr. J. n.
