5 PRESENTATION TO THE REV. J. D. RUSSELL. A farewell evening was given in the Jlissions to Seamen Institute last night to the Ifev. J. D. Russell, who is leaving Petone to occupy a position in Oamaru. Jlv. J. S; Cummings, speaking on behalf of the workers of the mission, said it was an occasion which they know had been coming for sxuno time, but that did not make it any easier or render it less sorrowful. Ho referred to the magnificent work dene by Mr. Russell, during his term of thirteen ye.irs as honorary secretary of the local committee of the Missions to Seamen. After paying a fino tvibuto to tho work of Mr. Russell, Mr. Cummings asked him to accept a beautiful set of books, and wished him godspeed in liis new sphere of labour. Mr. W. Gardner presented the set of bcoks on behalf of Mr. Moore, tho Missioner, who wrote expressing bis inability to bo present through ill-health. Eulogistic speeches were made by Miss Dement, Mr. E. L. Burgess, and Mr. Simmons. Mr. Russell very feelingly responded. The • various speakers made sympathetic reference to the unavoidable ab-.-Mico of Mr. Moore. Songs were contributed by Madame Mueller, Miss Mueller, and Mr. C. Colpus. Supper was served, and the singing of "God Be With You Till We Meet Again" concluded a pleasant evening.
