Speaking of •' eow-tesfing, Mr. J. W. Jones, who presided at'the opening of the Taranaki Provincial Conference of the Farmers' Union,_ said"Much more will have to be done in this line if we are to nay the present, price for land and stock 'and still have a little left for our year's work." To illustrate the effect-of catering for the requirements of the individual cow, tho ■ "Agricultural.. Journal" says:— One of the deep .milkers of. the Holstein herd at the Wereroa ■ experiment farm was giving an unsatisfactory, yield when first ■bandied, though supplied with an abundance of succulent feed in tlio shape of greelV maize. Jh*v feeding was tried bran mixed with chaff —and the result was magical. After two feeds of this ration the"milk-flow increased by two gallons a day. - After several days the dry feeding was dropped, when the cow's yield fell to .its former l«vel. Tho dry feeding had to be resumed." "Noxious weeds seem to be on the increase with us, and unless something ujora be done.to .check their.spread this highly productive land of ours-will be wasted with weeds." runs art "extract from a spe°ch at the Taranaki Conference of the Farmers' Union.
