The usual meeting of His Greytown District High School Committee was held on Friday evening last. Accounts amounting to £27 were passed for payment. The headmaster's report was road and adopted. Mrs. Jl'Malion, from Victoria. Tho C.E.JI.S. is making rapid strides hers, and frequently new members ar-3 being enrolled. Most of the members aro enthusiastic, and the church promises to fca on a better footing, through thdr instrumentality, than it has been for somo <ime. The members have undertaken to help reduce the cost of the upkeep of the church, .beside;; otherwise assailing, and it is even probable that they will endeavour to re-form the choir.,which, unfortunat?ly, disbanded several mouths ago. FEATKERSTON. There was a full attendance of members at the Donating Society's meeting en Friday night. The subject was: "Should women hold equal positions in public life with men?" Tho result of the voting gavo a win for the affirmative side by 12 votes to 8. A ballot was also taken to decide which party excelled in tho debate, the affirmative also winning by 11 votes to G. Tho Fire Brigade held its first longnight danco of the season on Thursday night. There wero about 40 couples present. Mr. S. Sievers, of the local'branch of the Bank of New Zealand, has received notico of his transfer to Wellington. Mr. .Brown, of Carterton, will succeed him. The Wairarapa Hunt Club had a run at South Featherston last Thursday, but owing to bad weather there wero uot a great many followers. woouviuu. A commencement has been made to lengthen the eastern end of the station platform. When' finished, this will be of great advantage to the travelling public. Thosa travelling from Palmerston end have a very awkward climb in and out of the trains as things are, but the addition will do away with that trouble. A special meeting of thp Borough Council was held on .Thursday evening. Tho estimates as prepared by the AVorks Commiltee. wero adopted. M'Lean Street South is to be metalled, and various other patching work is to be done. A number of streets, require attention, but in view of the drainage work igoing on anything permanent required is to stand over.
