RAILWAY RATES ON SHOW STOCK.
THE QUARTER FAKE. ' ■. The committee of tho Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association discussed (says the "Herald") the question of concessions in railway rates on stock being fic-nt to agricultural shows. At tho present time-stock can be railed to shows at quarter rates, provided that it is not sold at the show. If the stock is sold at the show, then full rates must ba paid both ways. The idea of this arrangement is to prevent agricultural shows from becoming sitleyarcls or favourite places for Bheep-owners disposing of their sheep. Tho point was brought forward by Mr. A. S. . Ehvorthy as a suggested remit to the coming Agricultural Conference, the mover • being of opinion that the quarter fare rate should bo extended to sheep fold .or exchanged. Mr. Ehvorthy suggested , that a commission on sheep sold at shows 1 would probably meet tho case from the I Department's point of view. It was point- ' ed out that sheep could quite easily bo i exchanged at shows, and yet tho same i number be railed away by tho owners. .Finally, it was resolved that a remit 'should be sent- to the conference so that 'the point could, at any rate, be discussed.
