Dominion Mufitiui, May 22, 1911. NEW BOAT FOR PATEA SERVICE. The directors of the Patca Steam Ship Company have decided to add another Dtcamer to their fleet for tho Patca-Wcl-lington service. Tho Palea "Press" understands that the new boat when complete! will bo 108 ft. in length by 20ft. bjam, fitted villi every up-to-date appliance for tho rapid handling of cargo, and also with complete Linc!e refrigeratinr machinery thoroughly insulated. The boat will be capable of carrying 30C0 carcasses of mutton or IOCO quarters of beef, or 4CCO boxes of butter, or 1530 crates of cheese. A ROUGH TRIP. After an eventful passage of three days 16 hours from Westport to Wellington, the cell'or Rakanoa arrived here ou Saturday evening from the West Coast port with about 2300. tons of coal. She left Westport at half-past eleven on Tuesday night, and experienced a sood passage until Cape Farewell was reached. From Capo Farewell to Stephen Island a steadily-increas-ing breeze was encountered, though it was not until Stephen Island was reached that the full force oF'tho sea and galo raging in the Strait had to bo contended with. She battled along until Long Island was reached, where it was decided to seek shelter. The voyage was resumed on Friday morning, and after another struggle, with the elements Cloudy Bay was made. It was then decided to head for Capo Campbell, so aa to avoid a beam sea on the run to Wellington. She arrived hero shortly after four o'clock on Saturday afternoon. Whilst she was sheltering at Long Island tho Petone, from Newcastle, also put in until tho weather abated. . .WAITEMATA IN PORT. The Union Company's large cargo steamer Waitcniata arrived here yesterday morning at 7.15 from Calcutta, via Singapore, Samarang, and Auckland. She left Calcutta, on April 11, arrived at Singapore on April 18, and after loading 600 tons of cargo left the following day for Samarang, where she arrived on April 22. Here the vessel took on board 4544 bales of kapok, and resumed her voyage to Auckland. The vessel passed Goode Island on May 2, and experienced fine weather with light winds throughout tho voyage. She arrived m Auckland with cargo amounting to 6370 tons of general eastern merchandise, and discharged 2630 tons there. The Waitcmata ldft Auckland about four o'clock on Wednesday afternoon, to experienco a severe buffeting from a howling southerly and a mountainous sea for nearly tho whole of tho trip. Captain S. Vint is in command, and has the following officers under him:—Chief officer, Mr. J. Scott; second, Mr. F. J. Couldrcy; third, Mr. A. S. Johnson; cMer engineer, Mr. A. A. Grant; second, Mr. W. J. Hosie; third, Mr.- D. G. Stephens; fourth, Mr. A. Lang; fifth. Mr. G. E. Dickie. Mr. J. 11. M'Narn (formerly of the Aparima) is purser, and Mr. 11. Livick is chtef steward. On completion of tho discharge of the Wellington portion of her cargo (about 1800 tons of Eastern merchandise), the vessel sails for Lyttelton and Dunedin.sand on completion of discharge at the latter port it is stated that tho Waiteniata is to be engaged in the coalcarrying trade between Newcastle and New Zealand ports. She will probably leave hero on Tuosday morning for the southern port.

The Victoria, which arrived hero ou Saturday morning from Napier, experienced a rather bad passage on the run down the coast. She left Napier at 10 o'clock on Friday, and took over 24 hours to do (he trip. Owing to the fact, that she was a day behind time, she sailed direct for Duncdin at eight o'clock on Saturday nieht, omitting Lyttelton as a port of call.
The Takapuna goes on the Patent Slip today for overhaul.
Tin; Tainui is expected to sail for Waitara. and Moltau to-day at 3 p.m.
Messrs. Johnston and Co. advise that the Manaroa, which has just completed overhaul, sails for Motueka at 5 p.m. to-day.
