A committee mooting of the Irish Terrier Club of New Zealand was held in the Albert Hotel, Willis Street, Wellington, on May 17. Mr. W. Janson occupied the chair, and Messrs. Lowrio, Hobday, Morrish, Thompson, and Hanson wcro also present. Twclvo new members were elected. The committee allotted trophies for competition at the following shows: —Dunediu: Two trophies, valued at one guinea each, to lio awarded ,one to the best novice dog, and one for the best novice bitch. Christchurch: Two trophies, valued at one guinea each, ono for best puppy dog under twelve- months old, and one for best puppy bitch under twelve months old. Wellington : The Irish Terrier Club of New Zealand Puppy Cup, for best puppy dog under twelro months old, to bo won three times before becoming tho property of an owner. Valued at £5 os. A trophy of similar value and on tho same conditions will be presented for puppy bitches. Manawatu Kennel Club: Two trophies, valued at ono guinea each, ono for novice dogs, and oilo for novice bitchos. Hawke's Bay Kennel Club: Trophy, valued at ono guinea, for N.Z.-bred dogs; gold medal, presented by Mr. G. S. Remington, for best Irish terrier bitch, bred and owned by exhibitor. Auckland Kennel Club: Trophy, valued at one guinea, for best maiden dog; trophy, valued at ono guinea, for best maiden bitch. Mr. J. F. Atkins, of Wellington, has very generously presented a fine silver cup, valued at five guineas, to the club, for competition among the puppy dogs. Only financial members of tho Irish Terrier Club of New Zealand will bo eligible to compete for abovo trophies.
At a meeting of the Wellington Fox Terrier Club, held on Wednesday, May 17, it was resolved to hold the club's first annual meeting on Thursday, Juno 29, 1911.
Tho following are tho sccond_ payments mado and entries received in connection with tho Fox Terrier Club's various sweepstakes.' Of 7-1 entries made on February 1 for tho Russell and Redmond Stake, 53 havo mado the second payment, which fell due on May 1. There have been 44 puppies entered in tho Sires' Produce Stake, 1911. These puppies represent 11 of tho 13 stud dogs nominated last year. For tho 1912 Sires' Produce Stake, 14 stud dogs hare been nominated (at £1 Is. each). Theso results should be most gratifying to tho club, as they are much better than was anticipated; also, as a result, there seems every possibility of thero being a record entry of fox terriers at tho Wellington Kennel Club's Show in August.
Tho following list of special prizes for fox terriers, to be awarded at tho August show, has been received:—Cup, presented by Mr. 0. B. Klino (novice dogs); cup, prosentcd by Mr. J. F. Atkins (wiro-hairs, open class, either sex); silver bowl, presented by Mr. L. Cimino (best puppy dog). Five additional cups havo been provided by tho club, and havo been allotted as follow: —Ono cup, maiden bitches; ono cup, maiden dogs; ono cup, puppy bitches; one cup, novieo bitches; and ono cup open (dogs and bitches). Tho total value of these cups is about £40. ■ Tho 'challenge shield, valuo £15 155., 'for host puppy (either sex), will again bo competed for. There arc also two caraffes, each valued at £1 Is., which havo been allotted to best dog and best bitch (smooth coated), winner of the cup to bo barred. A three-guinea medal is also to bo won by tho smooth-coated fox terrier scoring most points (under certain conditions) during tho whole of tho show season of 1911. The Kcn'nol Club has awarded a gold medal each to the winners of tho Rortmondand Russell Stakes, and to tho winning puppy in tho Sires' Produce Stake. Tho cash prizes in those stakes on present indications will bo about:—Redmond Stake (three prizes, bitches), £9; Russell Stake (three prizes, dogs), £9; Sires' Produco Stako (winning puppy), £8 10s.; Sires' Produce Stako (winning sire), £8 10s. Altogether the Fox Terrier Club will bo distributing well over £100 worth in cash and trophies, added to which there will ho tho Kennel Club's prize money, amounting to, say, £25, so that things look very bright indeed for breeders of this fancy. That well-known bull-dog breeder, Mr. K T. Taylor, has suffered another unfortunate loss in the death of his valuable brood bitch Kilbirnio Bronze, by Kilhirnio Conqueror—Ruby. This is tho second loss of this description that Mr. Taylor has suffered within a mouth. Mr. It. Bailey, of Karori, has just got a very fine litter of bull-pups. No dcubt wo shall hear more of this lot in tho near future.Mr. Barton has just landed a bullbitch from Sydney to mato with Bromley Squasher. Mr. F C. Stephenson, of Messrs. Archibald Clark and Sons, Wellington, has gone, into tho Scotch terrier fancv, having purchased a very nice bitch, from Mr. Clifford, of 'Wellington. Tho bitch Sandy, by ClydesdaleFanny, is in whelp to Rob Roy.' Mr. C. E. Hanson, tho secretary of the Irish Terrier Club, has just received from Auckland a very nice Irish terrier bitch puppy by Lurgan Looncy— Blazer Grogan. She is not yet three months old, but promises to develop into something first-class, being exceptionally strong iu tho head and coat at present. Mr. .1. Meike.l, of Christchurch, has purchased a brother to tho abovo bitch. Mr. W. Jar.son has disposed of his Irish terrier dog Lurgan Lanty to Mr. F. Ackman', of Hinekura. Lanty is tho .winner of two challenges, and numerous firsts. Mr. A. L. Caselberg has purchased from Mr. 1!. G. Makin. tho smooth fox terrier Birchley Brucr. The noted smooth fox terrier dog Birchley Belvoir is now in Mr. R. G. Makin's kennels at Levin, where he will be at tho service of breeders.
