FIRE IN LONDON.
SOME THRILLING ESCAPES. By Telceraph—Press AssociaUon-CoDyrleht (Rcc.'May 18, 9.35 p.m.) Lcndorij May 18. A dangerous firo is raging in the vicinity of Cecil Court, off St. Martin's Lane, the thoroughfare which runs from Trafalgar Square to Long Acre. Tho conflagration originated in an explosion in a basement where millions of feet of kinematograph films were stored. A man was blown bodily out of the shop above, and in a few seconds tho Court was a seething mass of flames. ' A book-shop opposite was consumed, and there ore fears that two blocks of fiats surrounding the Court will be involved. Many residents wero cut off by the flames, and the crowd below hurriedly strapped short ladders together and effected'rescues pending tho arrival of the firemen. Thero were many thrilling escapes. Some women crawled from their rooms along narrow parapets on tho points qf. tho building, and others flung themselves into the arms of tho crowd below. Five persons have so far been taken to the hospital.
