The Nurses' Ball. The annual ball of the nurses of tho Wellington branch of tho -New Zealand Nurses' A=siojation was held in tho Town Hall last eveninc and proved a great success. Probably all the nursins institutions in to-.vii wero represented by more or less large contingents, either in uniform or in ordinary- evening dross, and (including those who did not belong to the prote-oion) there must have bucn close on four hundred or mor? peoplo present. The large liali was most effectively arranged with scarlet uud white drapings, the spaces beneath tho gallery being curtained olf, and divided into alcoves, i'urnishtd with Chesterfields, and comfortable armchairs. The same colours draped the gallery railings, while tho front of the stage w.as also hidden from sight with them, and ornamented with paiins and huge clumps of giant, bamboo. A very graceful effect was also' given by placing these bamboo clumps (almost small forests) at intervals round the hall just in front of the aicoves, and they probably brought into more active use tho guiding capacities of the dancers. Tho main entrance to the hall had been carpeted in red, and made beautiful witli a profusion, of palms and evergreens.
