CIVIL JURISDICTION.

ABOUT A BAKER'S SHOP. CLAIM. AGAINST LANDLORDS. Mr. Justice Chapman gavo judgment yesterday in the case, William and Kobett Taylor, of Wellington, bakers, v. Martin Kennedy, of Wellington, and Felix Campbell, of Greymouth. The claim was in respect to the erection of n baker's shop at the corner of Adelaide Road and King Street, and the sum claimed is «£l5O, the plaintiffs alleging that the building was not in accordance with their requirements, as previously agreed upon between themselves and the defendants, and that their business had, therefore been hampered, causing then) loss. His Honour said, in his judgment, that there was a regular agreement between the parties, whereby the defendants were to lease to the plaintiffs a piece of land in Adelaide Road, and erect thereon buildings suitable for carrying on a bakery business. Tho requirements as to tho oven and other matters were laid down in the agreement, and had tho plaintiffs noticed the discrepancies before they took possession, tho damages would have been nominal. He assessed the damages at .£55, and gave judgment accordingly, with costs on the lowest scale. At tho hearing, Mr. A. L. Herdman appeared for the plaintiff?, and Mr. M. Chapman, K.C.. and with him Mr. G. Fell, for the defendants.
