♦ COMMON KIND OF FERMENT. MP. SEMPLK IS THERE. Waihi, May 18. Al a meeting of the Miners' Union laf>t night about illl) men were present. Proposals drawn by the executive requesting companies to errant increases t>f wages were nnanimou>ly adopted. The demands include increase's for miners, battery hands, surface labourers, engine drivers, stokers, and others employed about mines and batteries. Tho otlicials arc reticent as to the rates of pay asked for, the executive holding that to publish the rater before mbmHling them to the companies would not be fair. The companies are,to be asked for a conference. The union has just cancelled registration. Sir. Simple, organiser of the Federation of Labour, is in Waihi. ROMAN CATHOLIC COMPANIES. Auckland, May 16. The proposal to have Roman Catholics above 18 years of ago enrolled in separate companies has not been before bishop Geary, and has not been considered by him. The movement thus far lias becu confined to the enrolment of those from' 11 to 18 years of age. THE CAMPBELL CRECHE, Auckland, May 16. The Campbell Creche was opened and dedicated to-day by tho Anglican Bishop of> Auckland (Dr. Crossley), warden of tho Order of the Good Shepherd. The building is a gift from Sir John Logan Campbell, and cost .£2OOO. In it sick oi working mothers can leave their children knowing that every care, will bo taken of them. NAPIER HARBOUR. Napier, May 10. At a meeting of the Napier Harbour Board to-day, it was decided to obtniu the odvico of Mr. W. Ferguson, C.E., Wellington, as to the best course to take in connection with the proposed inner hatv hour, and existing breakwater harbour before obtaining further reports from ox-, ports. At tho Supremo Court to-day 'Goorgo Thinnings was acquitted on a charge of committing perjury at Oamaru on February 13. _ Neil AVilliams NicolsoA was charged with stealing certain water on February 21, at St. Balkan's, (ho property of tho Scandinavian Water Raca Co. Beautiful weather has been prevailing on' tho West Coast for months, and continues. THE ENVOYS AT HAWERA. , Hawe'ra, May 10. Messrs. Redmond and Donovan, Irish delegates, delivered addresses hero last night on Homo Rule. A motion in sympathy with Home Rule was unanimously carried. About X2OO has bceD collected here.
