On being searched lif was found in possession of a loaded revolver and also, it is alleged, of part ni proceeds of u series of burglaries committed here. BREACH OF PROMISE, Auckland, May 1,1. In the Supreme Court, Gertrude Gard-lid-'sued J-'roderiek William Shepherd Eaton, claiming .liSfll. damages for breach of promise of marriage. The parties mot in London at the beginning of lust year, and were engaged to be married on March 13. • Eaton came to New Zealand, and Miss Gardner followed a few months later, arriving in November. Mr. Day, S.M., to-day dealt with th* case of a "kleptomania girl," who, on leaving her lodgings, took a lot.of clothing belonging to other lodgers. Her solicitor, in defending, said that the girl was well provided for by her mother,who had assisted in getting tho stolen things returned, and who Was much distressed, Tho girl was convicted, and is liable to bo called to come up for sentence any time during tho next six mouths. i ' SCOW TOWED OFF. Gisbornc, May 13. Tho scow Waikonini was towed off tho beach at Tokomaru Bay last evening by the Union Company's Tuatea. Th» vessel is believed to be undamaged.
