JAPANESE POLAR VOYAGERS.
THEIR SEASONS FOR FAILURE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright Sydney, May 15. . It transpires that the commander of the Japanese Antarctic expedition has returned to Japan, to furnish his Government with a report concerning the causes of the failure of the e.-pediiiii-A member of the party stated that they realised that the vessel was unfitted for Polar exploration. They expect that as a result of tho commander's report they, will be recalled to Japan in a few weeks' time. He added that tho party were not thoroughly seized of the conditions they would have to. encounter in the Antarctic regions. They would be better prepared next time.
ESPIONAGE SUSPECTED. (Rec. May 15, 9.20 p.m.) Sydney, Mny 15. ..A member of the Japanese Antarctic expedition has camped in the vicinity of tho South Head fortifications. Tho newspapers suggest the possibility of the men being spies, and object to tho camp near the fort. It is stated that extra sentries are being placed at the approaches to the military reserve.
