BRINGING SUOSPECTS BACK HERE.
AND HOW IT IS DONE. (By Tclegraph.-Speeial Correspondents ■ Auckland, May 15. An important step has been taken in Hie investigation of the burglary of Kohn's jewellery shop in Auckland. On Friday warrants were issued for the arrest of the man and the woman who were apprehended in San Francisco on a charge of stealing the jewellery, and the necessary papers will be taken to San IranCisco by Detective Scott, who will leave Auckland by tho Aorangi on June 3 to bring' tho two suspects to New Zealand. Tho papers comprise four sets, each or which consists of 50 sheets. An interesting, but .rarelv-used, legal procedure has to bo followed in connection with tho case, as the requirements of the Extradition Act and of tho convention between Great Britain and tho United States (1S90) are very precise and exacting. All extradition treaties provide that no prisoner shall be tried on any offences other than those for which he was surrendered, and this provision necessitates that the extradition papers shall bo prepared with tho utmost exactitude. The informations must set out the various offences, and ovevy step in tho proceedings must he properly connected with each preceding step, so that no flaw can possibly bo found. Previous New Zealand extradition cases include those of Dr. Orpen (1899), who was brought from - San Francisco to answer a chargo of murder; Robert- Gibb (1907), who was brought from Honolulu on a charge of false pretences and theft; and D. C. M'lntyre (1909), who was brought from South America on a chargo of embezzlement.
