EASTBOURNE BOROUGH COUNCIL'
_. : 9 A meeting of the Eastbourne Borough Council was held on Saturday evening, when there wero present:—The Mayor (Mr. H. W. Shortt), Councillors Bannatyne, Button, Morris, Organ, Pilcher, Wills, and tho t6wn clerk. Councillor Organ was appointed the borough's representative on the Hutt Park committee, vice ex-Councillor Mackenzie, to whom was passed a hearty vote of thanks and appreciation of his services.
It was decided to join the Municipal Association.
The 'Finance Committee was instructed to bring down to next meeting a report as to .estimates for the year. The town clerk was directed to summons for all rates outstanding on. May 30.
Instructions wer6 given for effective steps being taken to check the wandering stock nuisance, which has lately reappeared.
The question of tree-planting will be dealt with at next meeting. On the recommendation of the committee of councillors, who made a tour of inspection of the borough, it was decided that the following works bf put in hand: (1) 9 inch culvert across Rona Street Extension, adjoining Mr. D. Robertson's property, so as to protect read from storm-water. (2) Formation of footpath on north side of Rata Street. (3) Erection of lamps at (a) Rata .Strr:t, (b) Orna Road South; (c) Mahoe Street; (d) Nikau Street East. (4) Taking of pernianent level* , for road and footpath at southern Mnrirai, and the cost of the formation of footpath from Nikau Street to Allen Street to bo estimated; (5) culvert at Marsden's, Nikau Street, to be finished with concrete connections; (6) removal of gorso at Muritai water-reserve.
