Tho report that tho Monowai had a narrow escape from going ashore- ■on tho trip from Gisborno to Napier is unfounded. Tho weather was very thick when sho entered the bay, and a course was steered for tho roadstead anchorage—a practice always followed in heavy weather—instead of making for the breakwater harbour.
