A POLL UPSET.

Christchurch, May 12,

Mr. H. W. Bishop, S.M., to-day declared void the poll recently taken in the Fendalton riding of the Waimairi county on the question of forming a borough. The proposal was declared carried by 149 votes to 13D. but the result was objected to on the ground that the polling had been allowed to continue till 7 p.m., and that plural voting had been permitted. Mr. Bishop said he did not want to give- a decision on the matter of plural voting without argument by both sides, but he was satisfied that tho returning officer had no right to keep the poll open till 7 o'clock, and on that ground declared the poll void.
