V/OODVILLE.

The first ordinary meeting of ill© newly-elected Wootlvillo thorough Council was held en Thursday evening. A deputation from the Croquet Club (Messrs. Tyerman and Cormack) waited on the. council, and asked that some dressing might be done, to tho gve.cn. The matter was held over for a further meeting, in order to onablo the club to supply particulars. On tho motion of Councillor M'Caffrey it was decided that the Lighting Committee should inquire into tho matter of street lighting, the present system (the clock system) being unsatisfactory. Most of the councillors woi'G in favour of throwing out tho present system of lighting, and reverting to the old method. The appointment of ranger was then discussed, and it was finally agreed that: "The Mayor appoint someone temporarily, and that applications ho invited for tlio position, these to be dealt with at tho next general meeting." Tho County Council's attention is to he drawn to the dangerous state of Lower Woodland s Hoad Bridge, and that body is to bo asked to push on tho erection of the new bridge as soon as possible. Ibreo now retorts arc to he ordered from Home for tlio gasworks. On account of the drainage work taking up the inspector's time, the ordinary work jof the borough has fallen upon Mr. Mills, in addition to his usual labour.— It was agreed that Mr. Mills should receive Is. per day extra to his usual pay, this increase, to continue until tho inspector is relieved.
