THORNDON RESIDENCE INVADED.
THE INTRUDER ARRESTED,
k daring case, which the police cotv» sider to bo attempted burglary, was reported last night, and an arrest was effected. During the past mouth or two, a number of burglaries havo been reported from, the Thorndon end of the city, and the affair last night had its venue at No. 16 Moturoa Street. It- appears that Mr. ticorge Brownley had retired early, but, a few minutes after 9 o'clock, he was awakened by a somewhat Buspicious sound in the house. Ue at once made for the room from which it came, and, finding a man there, attacked him with a walking-stick, giving him a blow; ou tho arm that had tho effect of disabling him. Assistance, was then forthcoming, and tho intruder wna held until Constables Smart and Canning arrived on tho scene, and took him into custody. It is stated that the man gained admission to tho house through a window. This morning: he will appear beloro tho Magistrate on a charge of breaking and entering with, intent to commit a crime.
