She has had a sonpalion.il experience off the Uoggcr Bank. During a furious gale, Iho waves washing amongst (lie cargo w<S toil a number of drums, containing 37 tons of carbide, which were Mowed forward. The chemical commenced to explodc, and soon set fir* lo the ship, enveloping the forepart in flames. Then (ho Mascot was swung before the wind, and tho waves thundered aboard in still greater volume, wishing the fl.tminr drums amongst a big consignment ot wood pulps that was stored up ou deck. The ship's rails and deck were red-hot, but after five hours' strenuous work jet tismihig the deck cargo the crew got tho flames under.
