RESCUED. WOMAN JUMrS FROM A WHARF. Napier, May 11. A woman named Mrs. Emily Aitken, wife of a beardinghouso-kceper, jumped from tho wharf at Hie breakwater last nifjlif, presumably with the intention of plmifriiiff into the sea. She fell, however, on the ledge of the rocks, and was rescued by wharf officials without having sustain, ed any damage beyond a thorough drenching by sea-water. Marrya.tt. and Pollock, was lost, being supported by three members, and opposed by 19. It was resolved to take no further action, and the Auckland delegates vrow thanked for their kindly interest in th* niaiver. CHEQUE ON THE 8.N.2; Auckland, May 11. In the Police. Court Charles Kiwi WiU kinson pleaded not guilty to forging a cheque for J;GO on the Bank of New; Zealand. Wilkinson and William Alexandcr Boyd were charged jointly with having forged and uttered a cheque for £135 purporting to -bo signed by T. S ( Collins. The police produced a statement by accused admitting the offence. It appears that the two accused agreed to Hib forgery.- Wilkinson suggested operating on Collins's account up to ,£2OO. Boyc disagreed and they finally agreed to make it up to ,£135. Accused pleaded not guilty and were committed to the Supreme Court on all charges. Boyd was admitted to bail, himself in ,£SO and another surety of ,£SO, or two of £25 each; Wilkinson was granted bail, himself in .£IOO, and" two others of £50 or one of £100, THE NEW RULE RE DEBTORS. Christchurch, May 11. In tho Magistrate's Court this morning counsel in a civil case in which judgment had just been given by consent applied for immediate examination of tbo debtor with the object of- ascertaining what debts wero owing that could- be attached. Tho application Was made under tho new rule which provides that such an examination may bo made and f debtor required to show cause why h<; should not pay the amount into Courtj E\cntually the case was adjourned till Saturday. HASTINGS STRIKE ENDED, Hastings. May 11. « The borough employees' strike has ended, the council agreeing to abandon tha proposal to have the sewer excavations done by day work.
