RONGOTEA AUTUAIN SHOW.

■ —* -— . A STJCCESSFUI;"GAT-HERING. The second autumn show of the,Kongotea and District Horticultural Society was opened on Wednesday in the Coronation Hall, Rongotea, under favourable weather conditions. The'show waspatronisedby a large number of peoplo, who were very much suhpriscd at the general excellence of the exhibit* in tho cultivated classes. Potatoes, onions, beet, pumpkins, and squashes, and mangolds attracted a.good deal of attention. The season was lato for flowers, of which chrysanthemums were the most numerous. Prior to tho opening of the show the judges were entertained at a lunch by the committee of tho society. The show was officially opened by Mr. J. G. Wilson, chairman of the Manawatu County Council, in tho absence of Mr. E. Newman, member for Manawatu. In his speech, Mr. Wilson said he was very glad the children were being taught the work of gardening, and that they were making progress in tho work. Tho Feildittg A. and P. Association were conducting school garden competitions, and with Messrs. Mayo, Lethbridge, and Weightmnn going about the country to judge these gardens and give advice to the children, the latter had all the advantages of being taught proper methods of horticulture and agriculture.
