Auckland, May 11. The guard of tho I rain which van away, from Otahuhu on the evening of Easter Monday, and narrowly missed colliding wilh the south-bound Main Trunk express has, it is stated, been reduced in rank as a result of the investigation aa to the cause of the accident. Two other officials, who were also suspended have: been exonerated. ~,,., „, , It has been stated that Mr. Claudo, who*e promptitude was the means of averting a collision, will bo given a free pass on the railways of the Dominion for the remainder of his, life. Mr. Claude, however, has not received any intimation to this effect, although he has been thanked by the Department for his conduct.
