The sittings of the Court of Appeal having been virtually completed, the judges are dispersing in readiness for the Supreme Court sessions, which will open in each of the four chief cities next Monday. . Mr. Justice Denniston left last evening for Christchurch, and Mr. Justice Sim for Dunedin. Mr. Justice Williams will probably leave for Dunedin to-night, and Mr. Justice Edwards has arranged to leave for Auckland to-mor-row. The Chief Justice and Mr. Justice Chapman remain in town.

Mr. James Trevor is at present Slowly recovering from the effects of a mild attack of ptomaine poisoning contracted while on a visit to Raurimu early in the week. He was with Mr. John Prouso at iho time, and on Wednesday morning, about S o'clock, became very ill, and had to return to Wellington. ' His medical adviser diagnosed ptomaine poisoning. It is surmised that the trouble was caused by something partaken of the evening previous, for Mr. Prousc complained of feeling unwell during the night. lit Mr. Prouse's ease, however, no serious symptoms set in. Mr. Trevor is now much better.

Mr. Val Johnson, assistant general manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, has been appointed manager of the company's interests in Tasmania, and will be stationed at Hobart. Mr. C. 11. Hlights, of the Hobart office, is being transferred to Dunedin, where ho will take up the position of acting-secretary.

Mr. Leslie H. Reynolds, C.E., who has returned to reside in Wellington, has been requested by the Waiiganui Harbour Board to report and adviso upon extensidn of the present harbour works, and upon a basis for Admiralty large ocean-going steamers to enter the port.

Captain Jno. T. King, who is leaving for London, via Australia, to-day by the Warrimco, was the recipient of a presentation of a pair of binoculars yesterday from the heads of departments and head office staff of Hie Gear Company. Captain Kiiic has been with the Gear Company for the past twenty-five years, and, in the late eighties, was master of the company's steamer Jubilee. Previous to joining the Gear Company lie was am officer in the Shaw, Savill Company.

The late Mr. W. J. Williams, who died at Karori on .Monday last, had lived in that suburb for nearly forty years. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Williams, arrived in the ship London in 1912, and the late Mr. Williams was born in the same year. After leaving school he went into business as a builder, which lie carried on at Karori until a few years ago, when he retired from active life. Deceased, who had been an Oddfellow since he was eighteen years of age, was greatly esteemed by a wide circle of friend's. He was one of the oldest members of the Karori Bowling Club. He leaves a widow and one son (Mr. Charles Williams'!. The funeral took place at St. Mary's Church Cemetery yesterday.

Mrs. Baker, wife of Mr. Tl. T). Baker, United States Vice-Consail-General. arrived in Wellington by the Moeraki on Wednesday. Mrs. Baker expects lo tour the South' Island next week.
