Her two sisters, Miss Monarni Holt-Harris, wearing a prcttv cream costume and olaclc picture hat, 'and Miss Minnie Holt-Harp, in a- cream silk frock, with over-all lace, attended her as bridesmaids, and carried shower bouquets of roses and maidenhair fern. There vr«re also two tmy maids, Miss Phvllis Holt-Harris and Miss Alice Mantill, both wearing dainty little frocks of pink silk, and carrying crooks tied with pink and white flowers. Her Excellency Lady Islington has kindly consented to become patron of the Young, Women's Association of. Auckland, and is much interested in the movement, says an Auckland paper. Her Excellency has.not only taken an interest in the sister association in Wellington, bui is a real friend of the young women, having personally met almost all the members. Her kindness in speaking 'in the Town Hall, and appealing to the people of Wellington for their support, has given a new enthusiasm and encouragement to those who are carrying on the association. During the last feuyears there has been much excellent work done by the Auckland X.W.C.A., which has mude great progress. This year a women's club has been . formed, ,and affiliated with the Y.W.C.A. A women's club- has been a- long-felt -want' in land, and with its literary circle fills a useful and obviously required corner in the intellectual lifw of the Association. Invitations have been issued by the, president of the committee of the Y.W.C.A. for an "At home" to meet Lady Islington at the institute, Wellesley Street East, on Thursday, 'May 18. Health and Breathing, , A lecture was given by Sister Avabamio/ in the Masonic' Hall yesterday afternoon j upon "The Ideal Marriage of the Future." There was a good attendance, and the speaker was followed with interest. She stated that the old days, when woman had to bo satisfied with the man who offered himself, and be content to play: u secondary part in the affairs of life, were passing away, and she now demanded that the rr.an should be more as she. wished, mentally, morally, and physically before .she married him. The hopo of the race lay in her keeping, and, . as she thought herself, so tlve generation that followed. To have a perfectly balanced mind with all its faculties in good working order it was necessary to keep a healthy body, and breathing (rightly understood) was an invaluable aid in doing this. The marriage of Miss Christino Picot to Mr. Eadie, of Martinborough, takes place on May 29, Miss Violet Woodward, who went, to Australia some months ago for the benefit of her health, writing to a friend by the last mail, states that she is very much better,- and expects to return to Wellington aboi\t tho middle of next month. Miss Eastwood, of the Nelson Girls' College, is in town, and is staying at "Kenilworth." Mi=s M. Burnes has returned to Wellington from a visit to the south. Mrs. and Miss M'Lcan, from Wanganui, are visiting W elliilgton, and are staying at "Kenilworth." Miss Maclaurin (Blenheim) is the guest of llrs. Zohrab at Day's Bay. Miss Vnllanco, Miss Effie Chalmers, and Miss N. Bennett arospendinff tonic days at the Blue Mountains (Australia) before returning to New Zealand. _ They will probably arrive hero next Wednesday, 'Dr. and Mrs. Terras-Bell, of Christchurch, were passengers from Sydney by the ilosraki yesterday. Miss Syme, of New Plymouth, returned from a visit to Australia by tho Moeraki yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. F. Munro, of Westport, who have been on a visit to Australia, returned to Wellington from Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday. Mrs. J. Perry, of Makuri, came down to Wellington yesterday to meet her sister, Mrs. B. Hosking, who with her husband and children returned by the Moeraki from Queensland.
