BILLIARDS.

BIG BREAK-BY LINDEUM. By Teleirraph— Press Associatiou-Copyricht Melbourne, May 10. Lindrum, playing Williams, made breaks of 800 and 641 (unfinished), mostly by losing hazards. TWO YOUTHFUL MARVELS. Williams, the English professional is stated by the Sydney "Herald" to have expressed tho opinion privately that Lmdrum, owing to his great consistency, would defeat Orayi and Lindruni himself is confident of being able to do so, at least, in a short distance match. Recent events have placed the world's billiard championship at an interesting stage. Gray is no longer the only player who can play tho losiug hazard with success. During his match with A. E. William?, which finished on April 25, Lindruin put up a wonderful sequence of centuries—lo whilst his opponent scoi-ed 17. He has made a thousand break twice in ■private, and feels sure that he will accomplish it in public in the very near future. On tho date in question ho electrified the billiard world by compiling a break of 706. of which C2l were made off the red, and had he been allowed to continue it is highly probable that ho would have achieved his object—a thousand break. ■ Tho result of the game—ho won by a margin of 5058 point: in a fjamo'of U.B—suggests the probability that Lindrum will not only score a thousand break in the near future, but will, when ho goes to England in July next, have a splendid chance of defeating Gray in a mutch. In a short game of, say, 9000, Lindruin would probably defeat his younger rival, but in a game of 38.000 Gray, by reason of his physique, might win, for Lindrum is not a robust man, capable of enduring a long strain.

In his match against Williams Lindrum compiled breaks of over 200, viz., TOO, SH, 533, A 72, 429, 8!)5, 317, 312, 259, 213, 23G, 2.31. 20!). and 202.

The 706 is second only to George Gray's record break for Australia, of Slfi, made in 1009. Moreover thero are only three billiard players living who have made larger breaks under the existing rules. '

Australian? would much prefer to see their two youthful marvels—for Lindrum is only 22 years of age—meet in Australia.
