At the Royal Colonial Institute, Sir George Kchl (High Commissioner for Australia) gavo hn' oddress on "Tho Past, Present, and ."Future.'of Australia." Lord Carrington, President of the Board of Agriculture, presided. Among those who spoke, were Lord Dcnman (Governor-Gencral-olcct of Australia), Sir John Forrest (ex-I'cdcMil Treasurer), Sir John Downer (an : exJ'rfiuiier of South Australia), , Sir Reginald Talbot. Sir George Reid"paid a tribute to Lord and Lady Dcnman. Hβ said he looked forward with great confidence to Lord Doninan having a distinguished career in Australia.
Tho "Pall Mall Gazette" says the immigration statistics were a feature, of Sir George Reid's paper. A gain of :17,500 people in 1010 was only little bolter than nothing when the vast spaces of AuMralin were considered. It was .still the urgent duty of the State Governments, to encourage immigration.
