THE "ZOO" AT ABAMOHO. (By Tclcsrauh.—Special Corresaocdent.t Wanganui, May 9. A largo number of Maoris are in town at present attending the Xative Land Court, which opened to-day, Judge Wilson presiding. Tlio Court has a very heavy list to deal with, including dm usual partition, succession, - and general cases. The Wanganui branch of the Roval Life Saving Society made awards during tlio season just closed, as follow:—Elementary certificates, S!); proficiency certificates, 120; teachers' certificates, 3; honorary instructors' certicates, 3; bronzo medallions, 59; awards of merit, JO. In answer to a complaint by a correspondent in the press, to tile effeci that milk from an unregistered dairy is being sold in this district, the stock inspector says that the system of inspection is very rigid, and, to the best of his knowledge, the statement is without foundation. Tt is stated that, after all. the.Aramoho Zoo is not to be moved to Oneluinga. The proprietor (Mr. Boyd) has informed the press that he intends to keep it up as heretofore. Regarding the Onchunga protest against the proposed Zoo there on account of the possibility of it harbouring rats, Mr. Boyd states that ho lias jio't seen a rat at the Aramoho Zoo for months. Tlio food fot tho animals is prepared in a high building, and there is nothing there to encourage rats; neither will there be at Onelninca. Messrs. Redmond and Donovan aro tho two envoys entrusted with tho Home Rule campaign in this district. They speak at Wanganui on May 19.
