Owing to a shortage in the wire, the Government are unable, to meet' the request of between twenty and thirty 1 , Petono residents for special direct tele-' phono linos to connect them with the City Exchange. Business people at Po» tone find it very difficult to got into-' anything approaching rapid communication with Wellington subscribers, through 1 the usual medium of the bureaux, so numerous are the applications daily. \ Petono subscribers learn that Wellington ■' people, have, been endeavouring without' avail to connect up with them.
