FARMERS' UNION.
PALMERSTON NOETH BRANCH. The adjourned annual meeting iof the Palmerston branch pf tho Farmers' Union was held on Saturday morning, thero being present' Messrs. J. Balsillie (chairman), J. Wingate, L. It. Bryant, H. J. Barber, Alex. Farmer, and Captain Hewitt. The director of tho Technical School wrote asking for financial assistances to.wards the establishment of sheep-shear-ing classes at the school. Several members expressed' themselves' Ijotlv for atidi against tho, proposition. It was decided to refer tho matter to the Provincial Conference.- . . The balance-sheet, which was adopted, ■showed a 'small debit on the year's .working. , It was decided that the annual subscription for the coming year be fixed at IDs., with a. 10 per cent, reduction if paid before Juno 30. KEMITS. The following remits were forwarded to the Provincial Conference:— Proposed by Jlr. Balsillie:—"That this •conference, enters an emphatic protest 'against the.'system now in vogue on tho New Zealand railways, whereby two or more farmers, taking sheep (rams for instance) from any..one station to any one destination cannot combine together to hire a truck or trucks to send them as one consignment j and would urge the Dominion Executive to bring the matter to the notico of the Minister for his favourable consideration." Mr. Bryant moved to tho effect that the present system of tho election of representatives of the Hospital Board was most unsatisfactory, and that tho old system of election be reverted to. Mr. Balsillie moved that .the system of appointing jurymen was not satisfactory, atid that, if a juryman was called for one sitting of-tho Court-he should be exempted from attendance at the next Sitting. Messrs. J.. Balsillie and Wingato were reappomted delegates to the Provincial Conference, and it was decided to invitethe conference to- muet in Palmerston nest year. THE MASTERTON BRANCH. (By Telegraph.-Spqcia! Correspondent.) Masterton, May 7. ine annual meeting of the Jfasterton branch of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday afternoon, Mr. J. C. Mr. Hugh. Morrison was elected president for the ensiling year, and Messrs. J. C. Cooper and A. J. Percy vice-pre-sidents. . i
.It. was decided that the subscription ■be inert on a graduated scale, the maximum being thirty shillings and the minimum ten shillings. Messrs. Hugh Morrison fend- J. C. ■Cooper were appointed delegates to the Provincial Conference, which is to be held at Woodville at the end of the month.
A number of remits was prepared, including one dealing with the Harbour Board elections which were referred to b~ Foveral speakers as unnecessarily expensive.
It was .decided ' that future meetings Of the branch bo hold monthly.
