Y.M.C.A. BOYS' DEPARTMENT.

On Friday last a good gathering was present at tho concert in aid oi the physical department oi the boys' section of the Y.M.C.A., the assembly hall being tilled. Everyone present enjoyed the ennsart', and the Physical Committee (Mr. Meats and others) arc to be credited with its success. In oi:cning the concert Mr. Eglin (chairman) made mention of tile pleasing tact tlirt the audience included such a large proportion of parents. The programme included songs, recitations, conjuring and music. About midway through the evening Mr. Kdvrard M. Ryan (boys' work director) was introduced by the chairman. The director stated ilie -'membership had increased from !)!) (in November last) to 139 (end of April). The attendance lit the rooms during December last was 474, and during April 9117. He also spoke of the work of the social an:! religious department, and concluded with an appeal to parents to encourage their boys to join such cadet corns as might be formed in connection with various religious organisations. Songs were rendered by Miss Jennings. Mrs. Free, Messrs. Cock?, Worth, and Borthdolt; musical items, Messrs. Goer and Jones: conjuring, Mr. Culling; elocutionary items, Miss I. Hargreaves: nianofortp solos, Messrs. Jennings and Baker. -Mr. Jennings was accompanist.
