POWER FOR MIRAMAR
A BOROUGH COUNCIL SCIIEME. The Mayor of Miramar (Mr. J. Brodie) is looking ahead. In the course of his remarks at yesterday's meeting of tho J'Jorotigh Council he stated that he hoped before 10113 to place before ratepayers a scheme for supplying power witliiii the borough. What particular class of power he did not mention at the time, but in the course of a subsequent interview Mr. Brodie said that as industries developed at Mirauiar power would bo required, and ho did not see why the borough should not supply that power. They had to have an electrical power station with which to pump the drainage, and it was merely a matter of getting engines and dynamos of greater capacity than was necessary for borough work to create a surplusage of power, which will be at tho disposal of thos2 who require it for industrial purposes. Ultimately tho idea was to generate dt tho power-station sufficient current to light the borough, and to supply power to drive the trams within the borough. The power-station is to be situated on Townsend Road, on the hil! near the Soatoin tunnel, a site which was selected by tho engineer. When it was suggested that a site nearer tho watpr-front would have been more economical, Mr, Brodie stated that modern oil engines, wero to be r.fed in-(lie power•lknup, which-.fHsp.ensed'with the cost of coal cartage.
