CHARGE OF CRUELTY.

Mrs. Wilesmith and her bailiff have been sentenced to two years' imprisonment with hard labour on the charge of cruelty to the girl taken from the orphanage by Mrs. Wilcsmith, and used as a household- drudge. Mrs. Wilesmith's son was bound over under the First Offenders , Act. Mrs. Wilesmith, a AVorcester lady, her son, and a bailiff employed by her- uero charged with terribly ill-treating a girl servant, aged thirteen years. It was alleged that the girl was mercilessly boaten and her wounds salted. Mrs. Wilcsmith is a prominent Christian Scientist and a Salvation Army worker. There were stated to be fifty-tour permanent sears on the girl, many being four inches in length. The girl was taken from an orphanage when she was seven years old, aud it was alleged made a household drudge.
