CREATING SLUMS.

« A HATAITAI TEOTEST. At a monthly me?ting, held on Monday evening, (lie Hataitai Municipal Electors' Association passed the following resolu- | tion, proposed by Mr. A. Leigh Hunt (president) :— "That the Wellington City Council be urged to at nrico crontc n by-law under Section 31 of the Municipal Corporations Amendment Act, 11110, prescribing the minimum frontage and area of an allotment of land on which a dvcllinyliouso may be erected." Supporting his motion, Mr. Hunt f.tnte;l that the section quoted gave municipalities power to prevent the erection of slum areas. It should be put into operation immediately. The suburbs nhould be protected from tho jerrybuilder who frequently placed three houses on two sections. A minimum frontage of 10 feet should be prescribed for suburban areas. This would not impose hardship on anyone who had subdivided into smaller areas prior to the passing of the Act, as provision was made that the section named should not apply, to any allotment of land subdivided prior to the passing of the Act on December 3 last year.
