B'RER 'POSSUM.
HIS INROADS IN OTAGO. A letter came before the Otago Acclimatisation Society on Friday from Mr. A. S. Lc Soeuf (director of the Sydney Zoological Gardens), in which ho expressed a desire lo secure some specimens of opossum skins fron. Otago in order to compare them with those of the opossums ill Australia, and ascertain if any special condition had developed in them. He added that ho was consulting with tho authorities ill Wellington with reference to tho introduction to New Zealand of swallows, superb warblers, and other birds.
The reference to opossums .. led to a facetious remark from a member of the council that these animals were "increasing enormously" in Otago, and it was duo to the society to get some revenue out of them, as it was known that "largo quantities of skills had been forwarded to Sydney."
It was agreed that the .question of the society issuing licenses for the taking of opossums bo referred to tho Game Committee for renort.
